For years surgeons have been looking for a simpler, atraumatic method to control bleeding during surgery. A bloodless field is imperative for clear visualization and accurate placement of sutures, yet conventional occlusion techniques risk damage to blood vessels.
LeGoo is a water-soluble gel that forms a temporary endovascular plug at body temperature. LeGoo's gentle mechanism of action minimizes the risk of vessel damage while providing a superior bloodless surgical field. LeGoo facilitates the anastomosis by minimizing dissection, maintaining the cylindrical shape of the vessel and allowing sutures to be passed directly through the gel.
To restore flow, LeGoo is dissolved by applying ice to the vessel or by infusing cold saline. Once dissolved, LeGoo cannot reform a gel because the concentration is too low. The diluted material passes through the microcirculation and is excreted in urine.
